The Double Uni or Uni to Uni Knot is used in salt and freshwater fishing to join two lines with different strength ratings, or two lines with similar ratings. Some anglers consider the Double Uni easier to tie than a Blood Knot. Roland Martin, the well-known bass fisherman, prefers to use the Double Uni to tie braided line onto a leader of mono or fluorocarbon. When using the Double Uni to tie a braided line to fluorocarbon, make 6 to 8 turns. With mono line, make at least 5 turns—heavier mono line will need fewer turns, and lighter will need more. Step 1: Overlap the ends of the lines to be joined together. Pass the tag end of the bottom line up and around both lines.

Step 2: Pass the tag end through the loop and make 3 to 4 wraps around both lines passing back through the loop each time. (Note: If tying with braided line, make 6 to 7 wraps around both lines.)

Step 3: Pull the tag end to tighten the knot.

Step 4: Repeat the above steps with the other line. Take the end of the line and double back and around both lines.

Step 5: Pass the end of line through the loop and make 3 to 4 wraps around both lines passing through the loop each time.

Step 6: Pull the tag end to tighten.

Step 7: You have created two Uni knots. Now take the two standing lines and pull them in opposite directions. The two knots will slide together to form the Double Uni Knot.

Step 8: Trim the two tag ends.
